KNOCK BEFORE YOUR ENTER

Image result for artwork. high priest garmentsThis may seem like a minor point – but could any point be minor when it has to do with Yeshua (Jesus)?  I was listening to a rabbi speaking from Israel yesterday in a class I often join online. He was speaking about the Old Testament High Priest, the cohen gadol, having bells on the hem of his blue garment. The reason he said, presumably from the Talmud, is so that a sound would be made before entering the Holy of Holies on Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, that one day each year when he was to offer a sacrifice for all the people of Israel, for the nation as a whole.  The sound of the bells, he said, are like a response to, “Knock before you enter.”

He was letting God know that it was he, the high priest, who alone was allowed to enter this holy place of atonement.  Anyone entering there without the sound of the bells would, it was expected, die immediately in God’s holy presence.  Only one man as the high priest was sanctified and anointed for the task of so great an atonement, for the whole nation, for an entire year.

My thoughts went immediately to Revelation 3:20 which says, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.”  Here is prophesy fulfilled. Yeshua is letting us know that He is the fulfillment of all the High Priest was to be to Israel. As we are told, “Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Messiah Yeshua” (Hebrews 3:1). And it is He who is doing the knocking, now on our hearts, having been the only Holy One who could both fully enter God’s holy presence and who accomplished the ultimate and final sacrifice.

This is one more Messianic prophesy in which we can recognize the Messiah in the Tenach, the Older Covenant, hidden in the bells on the high priest’s outer garment.  And as we know, He accomplished that final and holy, though horrible atonement not just for Israel but for the whole world for whosoever would receive it for themselves.  And not for just a year but forever!!

I believe He knocks not only once for what might be an initial response to Him, to invite Him in to our lives, but a friend doesn’t just come once. They knock to let us know that they are there and wish to come in to our homes to ‘fellowship’ with us.  And so with Yeshua. It is a continual “knocking.” Always wanting us to know Him in a new and more precious and meaningful way… as our High Priest, as just one way to know Him.  So next time you even have a suspicion that He’s knocking, open the Door!

Strange Dream and what it meant

I had a strange dream that a couple who are pastors and friends of mine and I were preparing for some hard times.  It woke me up at 5:30 a.m. I asked the Lord what it meant  and He told me, “You will need your notebook for this.” So I got up and wrote this down.  I have submitted it to a few people, my pastor friend included, who have felt this was from the Lord.  See what you think.

There are things about to take place in the world that will be perplexing to Christians who are expecting a revival in which people are saved and things are blessed as you have expected Christianity will be again in America.  There will be people saved and people will always be coming to Me but the idea, the concept people expect is not how things will take place.  You (plural) need to allow Me to reset your expectations of what Kingdom values are because a lot of what is expected is cultural but not Kingdom culture.  There needs to be a rethinking of what constitutes Kingdom culture.
For instance, is "Consider it all joy when you encounter various trials" your automatic response to difficulties? Would you be willing to go the extra mile for your enemy? What I am telling you is not for immediate issues but are to let you know to prepare yourselves for days to come.
This is a time of preparation, even a warning for what will come about in days, perhaps, after Donald Trump is no longer president.  For now, there will continue to be adversity from those who are warring against him and what he stands for.  At the same time, many Christians are expecting all to go smoothly and for America to become a Christian nation as it once was. But that was then; this is now. The days are becoming darker in the world and while there is Kingdom advancement today, and it will continue, so also will the kick-back from the enemy.  There will be an increase of darkness. Do not be alarmed by it. Have I not told you such days would come. I have also told you that there would be a great light – and the glory of the Lord would shine brightly in the darkness. Are not the stars able to be seen more clearly on darker nights?
So this is a time to begin to prepare, to think more deeply about what it means to be light in the darkness. These messages of the need to prepare will seem like the messengers are just being negative to some people but they must also be warned against seeing the preparation as negative, for these preparations will carry the power of God to be strong in faith when things seem to be contrary to what you would want or expect. This is a time to begin to absorb My Word so that your prayers are one with My Word and therefore of Kingdom reality. For instance, not to make you more comfortable or happy in fleshly terms but to know the joy of the Lord as your strength, and the forgiveness of the cross even when times are not comfortable.
You would do well to begin to consider what brings fear to your hearts so that you can put the fear behind you so your faith in Me becomes deep trust, regardless of the circumstances.  This is why “Consider it all joy” should be something to meditate upon. Not to do it on your own but because you can grab hold of the love of God that is poured out in your hearts. And this not only because you may feel My love in your hearts for yourselves, but secure in knowing I am a very present help in trouble. And also because of  My love in your hearts for those who appear as the worst of your – or other’s – enemies. Beware of taking on offenses, for yourself or others.
Remember that I died for all. My blood was shed for all mankind.  There is power that is and will always be available for loving your enemies and seeing them as having a great need for My love and to know Me.  Preaching the gospel is most effective when there are demonstrations of the Kingdom and not just the recitation of words. Love is the greatest demonstration of My Kingdom.
This is not meant to frighten you but to redirect your thoughts (and your preaching and teaching for those to whom this applies) in order that for the next years there is a preparation for more difficult days to come.  I suggest you not just read this once and put it away. I suggest you print this out and reread it periodically. Keep it in your bibles and while this may seem irrelevant in the here and now, if you will take this word to heart and reconsider what it truly means to be My disciple – especially in difficult times such as was the case for those who lived in the 1st century, you will be strengthened even now and signs of revival will begin to appear, even in ways beyond the expectations of most, as a Yeshua-like character is developed and you are increasingly conformed to My likeness.
Remember I did say, “Peace I leave with you, not as the world knows peace….Let not your heart be troubled. You believe in God, believe also in Me.”  Further, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart”, which in N.T. terms would mean your spirit.  And lean not on what your mind would say, especially if you are listening to negative reports in the media, or even from among those who speak fearfully. There is no light to be gained in looking at the darkness!
Judge not, lest you be judged means to not speak against one another, or others outside who are perceived as enemies, judging them as evil or worthy of being condemned. But judge as I, Yeshua did, of all needing Me. Be kind to one another as I have been kind to you.  This is a good place to begin thinking in Kingdom terms – with Kingdom love.
Fear not, for I am with you always, even to the end.  You each have an end on this earth. Know securely that you can put your treasure in heaven. But be aware also that this can mean rewards in heaven for the way you have lived as Yeshua, working and acting on behalf of others, giving yourself to others for their good. Make love your quest!
If you will begin to allow these premises to take hold (in your preaching and teaching and) in all your lives, you will see a way to the power of the kingdom. There will be much healing that will come about as a result – healing of relationships and of your body’s illnesses.  Signs and wonders will take place but they are not the highest manifestations of revival, rather the turning from sin – even the presently acceptable sins that are a part of Christian values right now that are not of Kingdom holiness.
It is the Father’s will that you become more like Yeshua as the goal of your lives.
Therefore, give your lives to knowing Me (Yeshua) more and more. Meditate on My own character, why I did or said what I did.  Know Me as I am available to you to know Me intimately by the Holy Spirit. Make this your priority for you cannot become any of what I have just told you or what the Bible says apart from the Holy Spirit who is also the Spirit of Holiness.  Put your dependence upon the Spirit of Holiness.  My born-again people are not told what you should do or become on your own strength or by your own doing, but by the power of the Spirit, just as I relied on the Spirit.  Remember I only healed when the Spirit was there for healing. Rely on the Holy Spirit to make you holy!  Put your trust in God to enable you, even as you work and believe and act as the Bible tells you to.
This is much to absorb. I do not expect all this to take place now or at once. This is meant to make you aware of what the Father is now doing among you by His Spirit and what you are being apprised of to begin to be strengthened in greater measure in these areas in your lives. So you will be over-comers in all your ways.  One step at a time, dear ones. I am with You.

The Gospel of Mark Through Jewish Eyes - Part 2

Shalom, Folks. I hope you had a good week. Thanks for joining me and the others who are a part of this online class.   Some of this lesson might seem a bit on the heavy side as I lay a foundation for where I believe God is taking us as we study the Gospel of Mark through Jewish eyes. We are taking a look outside of Mark's gospel today to how the people he knew might be somewhat bewildered by our "church" today. But take heart, Yeshua has overcome the world, and we are living in a day when God is overcoming some  erroneous doctrines and restoring the truth of His Word where it is needed. And in contrast to some past periods of church history, a renewed sweet sense of His presence is available to us as has not always been there.

When Yeshua walked the earth and taught God's people, He was largely bringing correction to misunderstandings of God that had come about through what some well-intentioned men had added to the Scriptures. Some of those intentions in time became sufficiently entrenched as religious doctrines so that   when Yeshua came to bring clarity to God's word, His teachings challenged their religious rules which also served to challenge their positions of power. This news isn't news to us, of course, but it's still significant to consider because it serves to make us aware that we too must be careful not to hold onto cherished ways of "doing church" that God may be seeking to better align with His word and His ways.

What John the Immerser said he was bringing was a message to prepare for the coming Messiah, and then Yeshua Himself, through His teachings and acts brought to Israel truth and revelation that also prepared God's people, those with ears to hear, for what Yeshua's atoning death and resurrection accomplished. Could it be that what God is doing today, bringing truth where it has been corrupted, and restoring correct understanding to misinterpreted Scripture is also preparation for the fulfillment of His final redemptive plan for mankind? New-found insights into places in God's Word  that were unclear or confusing before and now being understood that may have been misinterpreted or identified as something that wasn't what was happening at all. But now we have information to inform us of what was really being said. We will be talking about a number of these as we go on in our study. These are helping to readjust some of our concepts of the Father and His Son in "Spirit and in truth" by revealing truth where text has been added or misinterpreted. Happily, we are living in a time when our God is restoring  the power of the truth of His word and it is being manifested in our lives once again with healing, signs and wonders and changed lives. How exiting is all that?!

My mind just went to what Moses must have felt as 'The God of All There Is' Himself gave him unprecedented insights from creation forward that would impact not only Israel but the whole world! No wonder he was so exasperated and angry when he saw the people worshiping an insignificant golden calf after being with the Almighty Creator of the world! This gives me the expectation that for those of us who will spend time with God and let Him impart to us Who He truly is, the foolish things we once saw as "gold" and of value will fall away so that we can see that only He is worthy of worship and being adored.  But back to Mark.

Remember, this is the first writing of the story of Yeshua and Mark had to decide what to say. The challenge was not what to include but what to leave out as there was so much to say. Each thing he chose to put in the story he obviously felt was more meaningful than some other things he didn't include, in order to build a true picture of Messiah Yeshua.  Try to give some thought to Mark's motivation for wanting his readers to know this or that about Yeshua as we go on for some added insight into the story. Mark as the shortest of the four gospels seems clipped in speech and brief, as if Yeshua's always in a hurry. Not so. Mark uses the term ‘Immediately’ often which means more like “and then this happened.”

There is controversy as to whether this Mark is the John Mark of Acts or not. If so, then the believers would have been meeting in his home under his mother's hospitality, and so as a young man he would have seen or been a part of much of what the virgin church was experiencing, including when Peter came to the door after being put in jail and Rhoda thought it was Peter's ghost and not Peter himself at the door (Acts 12:12-16).  If he is that Mark, he would also have been the cousin of Barnabas who, being a Levite might mean that Mark also was a Levite and possibly came from a family of temple-serving priests (Acts 4:36). (There's so much in between the lines I wish we knew.)  Barnabas brought John Mark, now called just Mark, along on a mission trip with Paul (Colossians 4:10), only to have a falling out with Paul about Mark's behavior in some way, though later Paul asked for him to come to him saying that Mark "is useful to me in ministry" (2 Timothy 4:11). Evidently forgiveness for whatever happened put it behind them both. And we know that Mark traveled with Peter as well and heard all his stories which information, it is thought by scholars, is what Mark likely based a good bit of his gospel upon.

The sentence structure in Mark occasionally uses some Latin phraseology, “gospel” being one of them meaning good news, but the writing is more Hebrew in phrases and sentence structure, making Mark’s gospel undeniably Hebrew.  Even though Mark may have been addressing some Gentiles, he tells the story the way he heard it from Peter, and Peter certainly spoke as a Jew, telling the story of the Jewish Messiah to other Jews.  Keep in mind that Mark and the first century Jewish followers of Yeshua had every reason to believe that all who would come to the Lord – Jew or non-Jew – would see that Yeshua was the perfect embodiment of the Word of God given to Moses and the prophets, as there was nothing in Yeshua contrary to those teachings.  He fulfilled every Biblical prophecy pertaining to His life and lived His life as the quintessential Jew in every way.  The believers would have unquestionably thought, of course Yeshua would always be regarded as the fulfillment of the teachings God gave to Moses!  How could it be otherwise?

These very teachings, known as the Torah defined for Israel how to live the highest quality of life on earth, free from selfishness and all that comes about as a result of it; free from the guilt of sin, and a way to live under the protection and provision of God. It also told of how this One God created the world - a good thing to know - so there is to be no worship of any other (false) gods. No other nation had anything close to this way of life.  So of course those early believers in Yeshua would expect nothing different of anyone who would come to trust in Israel’s Messiah.  As we read through Mark, consider that all that Yeshua lived out in what He said and did, to the very moment of the end of His life as a Man, was in the context of fulfilling the Hebrew Scriptures.

How ironic it is then that within a few hundred years almost all that was Hebrew or Jewish, including Scripture, was removed by its leaders from the church.  The Reformation of the church certainly did what it's name implies, it reformed many wrong doctrines and did away with many heretical practices, but it was just that, a reforming of church ways; it was not the Restoration that Peter said must take place before Yeshua's return. To quote Peter again as it continues to be a foundational verse for this study, "Yeshua is withheld in heaven until the restoration of all things as spoken by the prophets from the beginning" (Acts 3:21). It is those things we're in search of today and in this study!

Please note also that there is not one place throughout the entire Tenakh, the Old Testament, where the Torah is referred to as "the law." Rather, the Hebrew words used are more along the lines of teachings or instructions. The Hebrews did not regard the Torah as "you better keep these or else..." but rather as instructions on how to live the best way of life according to all God had taught them. We will talk more later about this when we come to Yeshua's relationship with the Pharisees, but keep in minds that how we may read the word "law" in our English bibles does not present us with an accurate picture of Israel's relationship with YHVH. Think of the teachings also not so much as being Jewish but Godish!  Because it is God who gave Israel their entire way of life through the Torah which Yeshua embodied.
Some of this may be foreign to those who have been raised in the church that has been so alienated from Yeshua’s life as a Hebrew because anti-Hebrew misinterpretations became entrenched rather early on in the church. Even that word church is a misinterpretation of another word, ekklesia which is actually a Greek word, having to do with those who are called out for a purpose. Believers are certainly 'called out' of the worldliness around us. Though we are 'in' the world, we are not to be 'of' the world. You already knew that, right? In meeting together, the ekklesia formed a Kehilla, a Hebrew word having to do with a congregation meeting together in meaningful relationships. Messianic congregations in Israel today are still identified as Kehillote (plural for kehilla).  The term doesn’t have to do with a building, but even so, coming together still had to take place somewhere. Somehow though the word "church" brings up in each of our minds a number of connotations that would not have been familiar to our first century Hebrew brothers and sisters.

I'm not saying any of this is bad, or that there aren't legitimate ways we are to adapt to the cultures in which we now live, or that anything 'modern' is against the will of God. Of course not, but you may agree that on the whole we do not look like the Book of Acts in terms of spiritual commitment and overarching love for Yeshua. Not yet anyway.  But if we are to give any thought to what God might want to restore to His people, consider that the pristine kehillot would not have even had a clue of what would come about among believers in Yeshua. They would not have envisioned one pastor as a leader who would be the only person who speaks at meetings (even Paul had dialogs, not monologs).  The early believers would not have imagined rows of pews where believers sit silently and passively without anyone contributing insights or revelations, prophetic words of the intentions or affirmations from God or encouragement of the Holy Spirit, or where there would be no messages in tongues with interpretations to reveal God's heart on specific issues - all of which was normal in meetings among the believers. Nor could they have imagined that the power of the Spirit to bring healing would be rare and deliverance from demons just about non-existent. Worship bands of professional musicians, not to mention ear-blasting sound systems, would have confounded them, and certainly, God help us, they would never have even conceived of the Feasts of the Lord having been considered heresy and replaced by two pagan-influenced holidays called Easter and Christmas. Add to all this that it would have been incomprehensible to them that their sacred day of Shabbat would be changed to  when the Roman sun god was worshiped, a day called sun-day, mixing worship of Yeshua and this false god together - thus violating two commandments to keep the Sabbath on the eighth day and to never worship a false god.

Can you see why God, who could envision what would happen, would speak prophetically through Peter and say to Israel, "Yeshua is withheld in heaven until the restoration of all things as spoken by the prophets from the beginning" (Acts 3:21)?  I believe we are in that day or restoration.  Israel is God's prophetic time piece and prophesies are being fulfilled regarding Israel more now than ever before. Not the least of which is the restoration we are talking about.

When man seeks to bring about the Kingdom of God by their own efforts and ideas, it will eventually become what human kingdoms are made of and not of the spiritual power and merciful grace of God. It inevitably becomes more earthly than heavenly. On the other hand, no one could have imagined or accomplished what God did by the power of His Holy Spirit in the early church. Indeed, they would not even have had the vocabulary to describe what unfolded. I suspect the same thing is true of the work that God will do in His people who will yield to Him as He prepares us for Yeshua's return, which is to say, the move toward the ultimate establishment of the Kingdom of God on the restored earth. As we go through this study, it is my prayer that the Holy Spirit will bring truths to us that will bring us to deeper truths and consequently to a deeper trust in and love for Him.

Only God can bring about what is fully "of" Him.  We say, Lord, do by Your Spirit what needs to be done in our lives to make us one with You and instruments of glory.  Amen.

IS THERE A WARNING IN THIS DREAM?

After every storm there's always rainbow.
Before I go any further, I want to say that despite whatever storms we may go through, even if we don't see it visually, God has promised us a rainbow. Sometimes they are above the clouds, like this one, so that we have to see it with our spiritual eyes, but it's always there.

Having prefaced this article with that thought, it is still with some reluctance that I write to tell you of a dream I had. This is not the kind of things I'm prone to think up or be preoccupied with. I have tried not to share it, but at this point, even if there’s no validity to the dream I’m about to tell you, I feel it would be irresponsible not to - just in case.  I apologize for this being so long (I thought of making it two articles but wanted to be sure both parts are read). The second part of the article is very real. And that part is, I believe, indeed a warning even if it doesn’t apply to everyone.

Part 1:  Sometime in 2010 I had the dream. I almost never remember my dreams but this one has stayed with me repeatedly.   It troubled me when I had it and I had the sense that it was not for me personally but was possibly a warning for others to be made aware of as well, if indeed it proves to come about as I had dreamed.  I shared it with a few wise and godly men who agreed it might be a warning from God.  One of them, knowing I’m a writer, suggested I write a book, somewhat like Joel Rosenberg writes, a kind of prophetic fiction (Rosenberg  writes  his fiction books and then they tend to come true). But I don’t write fiction and it would take a tremendous amount of research to write such a book.  So I did nothing with it till now.

For about the last two months the dream seems to be on my mind more often.  It kept going through my mind to put it on my blog. Still I have been reluctant to do so –  after all, it was just a dream, and, frankly, I didn’t really want to add to the cacophony of alarmist suppositions out there, not that there aren’t some real issues gnawing at our attention. This week there have been initial cases of Ebola now in the United States.  It seems to be time to share the dream. I will also share some of what I seemed to be given to understand as the dream unfolded though  I do not know what the first part (the next paragraph) represented except that somehow we survived something very threatening.

As the dream began, I was in a room with two other women who were terrified of what was taking place outside the room. Somehow it was surrounded by, or in the midst of a great storm, perhaps a social storm, a war or police action. The room was being blown as if in a hurricane,  and I could see things going past the windows as we hurled along though we were pretty shut in.  I was trying to keep their focus on the Lord, though it was hard for all of us. Somehow we made it through and were surprised to have survived it, but things were different after it than before.

What happened next took place in the basement of the Seminary which I attended which told me that it was somehow connected with spiritual issues and/or with the cooperation of the organized church somehow. It was at night. I was trying to get to my room on an upper level where I “dwelt.” I expected the classrooms to be empty at night, but I found there were classes going on, as if it was a regular seminary or college taking place. I knew that the seminary had rented the space to these people to have a whole other school on the same premises so both occupied it during one full day.

Interpretation:  That this took place in the basement was that it was hidden or of a lower spiritual nature.  I sensed both. My seminary did have apartments on the upper level. This told me I was attempting to ‘dwell’ in a higher place (spiritually) than all that was going on, as in “dwelling  in the Lord.”  That it took place at night indicates spiritual darkness. The seminary, which is, of course, a graduate school for training pastors, seemed to be unaware that these people had a whole other school of thought than what is biblical.  Nor were the seminarians who were supposedly Christians at all discerning of the spiritual condition of these other people so as to be wise enough or spiritually strong enough to disassociate from them.

The people there were all dark, as in almost black, (this was not racial but spiritual) and had no expressions on their faces, as if they had no spiritual life in them, though they were all alive physically. One young man, big and somewhat unappealing looked out at me from his classroom (I was not in the classroom but in the hallway) with no expression on his face. He appeared to be entirely dull of countenance. These people didn’t seem to have any light of the Lord or otherwise in them, though they were not evil.

I  then understood this was really not a school but they were involved with the making of a vaccine that was supposed to protect everyone from a lethal flu or virus, but somehow I knew the epidemic wasn't real. It was a way of controlling the population.

At this point I do not remember the dream exactly but what has stayed with me is that I was made aware that this was setting the stage for future mandatory “health” measures, specifically a vaccine that would be given to the entire population of America for the “well-being” of all against some perceived (engineered or contrived) threat. When you took the vaccine you would be given a mark on your hand or wrist. Those who refused the vaccine would be considered a threat to the well being of the society and would, among other things, not be permitted in stores or public places as they would be potential contaminators of the disease. My sense was that those without the mark would suffer being treated as traitors to society and rendered as outcasts.

Interpretation:  It appears those without indication of having had the vaccine would not be permitted to “buy or sell.”  (See Revelation 13:17).

I then came to understand that because of side effects from the vaccine which apparently affected everyone quite negatively, drugs would be administered to the population en masse in order that people could continue to function after the vaccines did their damage. Only they would not be functioning normally and would be controlled by the drugs which would make them dependent on the drugs and would have the effect of changing personalities, and subduing most otherwise active people. So then we would have an entirely drug dependent and controlled national population.  It reminds one of “Big Brother” [i] watching over the people.

Need I say that this should be avoided at all costs, should it ever actually happen, by those of us who are the Lord's as it is all a sign of the anti-Christ in his attempt to control the world.  We are of those about whom the bible says will we not succumb to those controls because they are viewed as worship of the anti-Christ.  We can see from the meaning of pharmakeia that it would be a form of false religion which is relying on and putting your trust in someone or something other than God Himself to provide a (false) sense of peace, joy or well-being.  Those who will "worship the beast" (the anti-Christ and/or his ways) are ",...all whose names have not been written in the Lamb’s book of life, the Lamb who was slain from the creation of the world....This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of God’s people"  (Revelation 13:8, 10b). It would be a time to remember that there is always a rainbow after a storm, in this case, an eternal rainbow!

Part 2:  As I have pondered this dream before the Lord, I keep asking is there really a warning in this dream?  I have seen other things that could possibly have to do with the dream. We are being programmed through the media to thinking we are a disease-infested society for which only drugs are the answer. Many of life’s normal problems are being considered as diseases  – now even heartburn is a disease. Drugs are the only cure, which don’t really cure, they manage the disease, meaning that continuing to take the drug is often built in.  I have observed that even on family-type channels, at times every third or so commercial is for drugs. Even with the sometimes life threatening contra-indications mentioned, people are so used to taking potentially lethal drugs that the warnings mean little. We are being brainwashed into thinking that drugs are the way to health, peace, joy and well-being, all of which Yeshua promised us, by the way.

There are precedents of vaccines causing serious mental problems as well as physical.  Our own army has used vaccines on our troops that have led to serious mental issues including suicides. See Endnote [ii] below for more on this.

Are you aware of Iatrogenic diseases? This means physician or medically induced consequences to treatment or advice.  See Endnote [iii] for more in-depth info but here are some specifics:

Deaths from accidental poisoning by drugs and other medicines climbed from 851 to nearly 2,100. Of those, outpatient deaths increased from under 200 to just under 1,500. This was in 1993. Since, it has continued to increased.

CNN reported that:  Drug Reactions Kill an Estimated 100,000 a Year.

Adverse reactions to prescription and over-the-counter medicines kill more than 100,000 Americans and seriously injure an additional 2.1 million each year, researchers say.
Such reactions -- which do not include prescribing errors or drug abuse -- rank at least sixth among causes of death in the United States, behind heart disease, cancer, lung disease, strokes and accidents, according to a report published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. The report was based on an analysis of existing studies.  "Serious adverse drug reactions are frequent ... more so than generally recognized," the researchers said.

Drug overdose was the leading cause of injury death in 2011. Among people 25 to 64 years old, drug overdose caused more deaths than motor vehicle traffic crashes.

Drug overdose death rates have been rising steadily since 1992 with a 118% increase from 1999 to 2011 alone.

In 2011, drug misuse and abuse caused about 2.5 million Emergency Department (ED) visits. Of these, more than 1.4 million ED visits were related to pharmaceuticals (medicines).

Between 2004 and 2005, an estimated 71,000 children (18 or younger) were seen in EDs each year because of medication overdose (excluding self-harm, abuse and recreational drug use).

Among children under age 6, pharmaceuticals account for about 40% of all exposures reported to poison centers.

In 2011, 33,071 (80%) of the 41,340 drug overdose deaths in the United States were unintentional,

Are we programmed to accept drugs as a way of life, as a means of solutions to problems, physical, mental and otherwise?   It would appear that drugs are even a form of entertainment among certain groups of people.  It may be that the dream is a warning of the drug use which is clearly a national threat. Even if some Big Brother or social intent is not deliberately programming us to control us, the devil is.

To go back to my often mentioned belief that God will have a people who are wholly dependent upon Him only for whom Yeshua will return, keep in mind that drugs and medicine are pharmaceuticals, in Greek  pharmakeía .  The word appears in the Bible in numerous places. According to Strong’s Bible Concordance, the word means, “to administer drugs… It is drug-related sorcery, like the practice of magical-arts, and often found in connection with idolatry and fostered by it.”  (See Exodus 7:11 & 22; 8:18; Isaiah 47:9; Galatians 5:20; and Rev. 18:23.)

Yes, there are times when medicines are helpful to us, but we must use them with discernment, wisdom and only when necessary, if at all. One report stated that doctors have written enough pain medications in one year for every house in America to have a bottle of prescription pain meds. Are we really in that much pain?  People have always endured pain. I wonder, are we really missing some endurance in our character that we dive for the pills the minute there’s the hint of a headache.  I realize there are some with significant ongoing pain and thank God there is relief. But the statistics above tell us there’s more going on than just avoiding endurable pain.

I’ll sneak in a personal testimony here. I recently fell and broke my hip – oh my, was that ever painful beyond anything I’ve ever experienced.   When I first arrived in the hospital – in a great deal of pain, mind you, they gave me morphine – oh, gosh, I hated it. It may have taken an edge off but wow, did I hate the feeling that came with it. I refused to take it after that. I asked for an Ibuprofen and endured the pain, with God’s help. They couldn’t believe I’d make that choice.

After the surgery they gave me Oxycontin for the post-op pain which I can tell you was considerable. Aside from burns, bone pain is the worst kind of pain, I’m told. I believe it. I took what they gave me, still groggy from anesthesia. That was just as bad. I can’t believe people take these things for fun. I can see why the bible calls them pharmakeia.  They are kind of mind altering and do interfere with one’s consciousness.  An old Yiddish expression my mother often said comes to mind: Nisht fah mere:  Not for me!  I confess that I did rely on a good number of Ibuprofens, but not the hard stuff. I apparently was a minority of one in the rehab where I lived for a month as I recuperated. Drugs were a way of life there.

I tell you this only to say that what I’m telling you about the drugs isn’t a piece of idealistic advice I’m giving without having suffered somewhat without them. But I can tell you that God will enable us to get through most of whatever we need to without them. [There are exceptions and I am not saying by any means to stop your meds without wise medical counsel where necessary. Diabetics and those with blood pressure and other serious issues, for instance, should not just stop taking their meds. You are not who I'm speaking to.]

Even so, should we not rather put our dependence upon our God who is “the same yesterday, today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8) who told Israel “If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you” (Exodus 15:26).

Are we not Yeshua’s whom “God anointed…with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him” (Acts 10:38)?  There we have the Lord’s healing in the Tenach and in the Brit Hadashah (the OT and the NT). I could quote so many more examples of God’s healing His people. I’m sure you could too.

I find it interesting that we call ourselves “Believers”  - well then, is it not time that we actually believe what we believe?!   Yeshua left His followers with these words:  “And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” (Mark 16:17, 18).

We can pray for one another to be healed!  Let’s begin to pray that God will anoint and empower His people so that we can be fully dependent upon Him and no longer subscribe to the devil’s alternative to God’s healing power. I have the feeling God will be more than happy to meet us there.  Amen?
